Photochronicle of Murom

The essence of the project is the creation of an electronic photo archive on the basis of family and private collections. The chosen method of collecting photographic images — scanning and returning to the owners of family relics — found support among many citizens, and in terms of the scope of participants became a people’s project.

Epistolary heritage of the province

Epistolary heritage of the province

Since 2008, the Murom Museum together with the museums of Kasimov and Kovrov has launched the project «Epistolary Heritage of the Province.» The project offers the collection, preservation and study of documents revealing the daily private life of ordinary people. These are letters, diaries, postcards, notebooks, memories. It is these kinds of materials that significantly expand the range of knowledge about a person in history, are invaluable sources for studying customs, home order, and the objective world.

The Murom Kremlin in 1678. Reconstruction

Murom is one of the oldest Russian cities. However, until now its history, especially the medieval one, is replete with «white spots». In particular, there is no real idea that it was the Murom Kremlin, which was the military and administrative center of the city for several centuries. Several timid attempts by researchers to restore its appearance can not be considered a successful experiment, because to a large extent they are speculative and are based on reading individual documents, not all of their complex.

The photos presented in the project come from the personal collections of the two "founding fathers" of the Murom Museum - the local historian Nikolai Gavrilovich Dobrynkin and the Mayor of Ivan Petrovich Myazdrykov. In the museum funds, more than one hundred species of the city of Murom have been preserved, their authorship of the late XIX - early XX century.
